Federal Form I-9 is used to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired in the U.S.
All employers are required to complete Form I-9 for each individual they hire or re-hire, including citizens and non-citizens. Form I-9 includes instructions for completion, as well as acceptable identity-establishing documents; these instructions should be carefully reviewed. Form I-9s must be stored separately from personnel files and must be retained for specific periods.
