Form W-4 is a federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) form that employees must complete to let their employers know how much money to withhold from their paycheck for federal taxes. The IRS released a new Form W-4 for 2020 that has drastically changed. Employees do not need to complete a new W-4 unless they wish to change their withholdings. All new hires should complete this new W-4. The IRS has also released a calculator that employees can use to assist them with filling out this form.Because W-4s are updated each year, best practice is to keep the appropriate year's form on file.
